Shrewsbury Morris
Shrewsbury Morris includes The Shrewsbury Lasses who are instantly recognisable by their brightly coloured pinafore dresses and often the flash of a garter. The Lasses dance with enthusiasm and enjoyment, and perform dances in a range of styles including handkerchief, short stick and garland dances. Also The Bull & Pump Morris Men dressed in green waistcoats, brown breeches and green socks. They took inspiration for their kit from the Shropshire fields and hedgerows. The men dance vigorous stick dances based on traditions from the Welsh Borders, as well as some more formal Cotswold Morris and Sword dances.
Revel- In–Dance
Revel- In–Dance Street Performance group comprises of 15-35 year olds who meet once a week at Shrewsbury Sports Village to learn and refine slick urban dance routines. Sarah Davies, who teaches the class, explains that ‘the choreography is always growing and developing; the core style is hip-hop but you’ll often enjoy seeing a fusion with Contemporary and Street Jazz dance styles. When you really enjoy dancing you’ll always have this secret desire to perform so I try to seek out any opportunity for the group to show off their talents – with that said here we are!
The Ironmen & The Severn Gilders
The Ironmen are a men’s team dancing the Welsh Border style of Morris, which involves lots of energetic stick clashing and whooping. They wear red and black tatter jackets and black their faces as a disguise. The Severn Gilders are a women’s team dancing in the North West tradition, which was originally performed by factory and mill workers from the Lancashire/Cheshire region. Their name comes from the ladies who “gilded” the china at the Coalport works and they each wear a golden rose to signify this. Both teams wear black and red to symbolize the coal and fire of Ironbridge, the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution where we are based. Weregularly dance at folk festivals all over the country and this year have been proud to dance at several prestigious local events for the Olympics and the 
Jubilee. We always welcome new members so why not come along to one of our practices and have a go?
