ÆLFGYTHE BORDER MORRIS are a Women’s Border Morris side based in Alvechurch.
Our name is taken from that of which Alvechurch derived
(for more information see the “Aelfgythe History” page).
We dance in black and silver rag jackets, our top hats are decorated
with: Feathers, badges, sequins, mirrors, flowers and ribbons.
The first official performance was on Wednesday 3rd December 2008
where we danced at The Weighbridge in Alvechurch.
Consisting of around 10 female dancers and 5 female and male musicians, we continue to make an impact on the folk scene by attending folk and dance festivals whilst bringing a new twist to Border Morris!

We dance a mixture of traditional dances, various dances have been written by some of our team members.
?We regularly add a ” Gythe ” twist to our dances.
Each dance is accompanied by a different piece of music and we use both traditional morris tunes and our own. We occasionally ask one of our wonderful musicians
to write a piece of music to fit with a dance.
