Bare Bones Morris (above)
Bare Bones are a women’s border morris side based in Loughborough, Leicestershire. Our kit is a red and green or yellow tunic with tails, black leggings and a black, green, yellow and red rag jacket. We mostly devise our own dances and perform to the music of our piper, John Goodacre.

Bakanalia Border Morris
Bakanalia Border Morris come from Leicester. We are a mixed and diverse side who are not entirely sure how long we’ve been around. That is probably not a bad thing.
Our dancers are usually quite shy and retiring, but have on occasion been known to whoop loudly mid-dance when the mood takes them. Musical accompaniment is provided by our band of esteemed musicians, who have been allowed to out to play for good behaviour…
According to the Oxford English dictionary, Bacchanalia is the Greek and Roman festival of Bacchus, celebrated with dancing, wine, general mischief and revelry— and Bakanalia Border Morris are usually found trying to give old Bacchus a run for his money!
Black Pig Border
Named after the ship of the infamous Captain Pugwash, Black Pig Border was formed in 1986 in Eastwood on the Nottingham and Derby border. Over the years we have developed our own style of Border Morris performing both traditional dances and some of our own invention. We are a mixed group of both female and male dancers and musicians. We wear brightly coloured tailcoats and top hats festooned with feathers, flowers, ribbons and bells. We uphold the Border Morris tradition by blacking our faces as a disguise. We practise on a Wednesday night at the Gate Inn in Awsworth and all are most welcome.

Anstey Royale Chalfont
“Anstey Royale Chalfont is a women’s team which was founded in 1984 at Anstey in Leicestershire. Most of our dances are from the mill towns in the North West and other dances that the team performs have been written for the side and are in the North West tradition. The team has used sticks, bobbins, garlands and slings as part of the dances and has musicians who play a whole range of instruments. Over the past 28 years Anstey Royale Chalfont has danced in many events in different parts of this country and in Europe.”

Black Annis Morris
During the winter Black Annis have a change of image and perform in the guise of Molly Dancers. Molly dancing comes from East Anglia and the fens. To brighten up the gloomy months we don glamorous gold or silver garments and our fool is replaced by Betsy who really gets the punters guessing and has been known to show a leg performing the broom dance. Way of the Wyrd
Way of the Wyrd are a Border Morris side based in Loughborough. They perform traditional dances and choreograph original dances. These dances celebrate Loughborough history, local connections and the seasons. The side welcomes all who wish to dance or play music. Workshops are run to give people a taste of Border Morris. The next will be 24th February.

Charnwood Clog Step Dancers
Clog dancing began over 200 years ago using the everyday footwear of the time, wooden soled shoes with leather uppers. This type of percussive dance echoes the machinery of the industrial revolution to the rhythms of hornpipes, reels, jigs and waltzes accompanied by traditional British tunes. Charnwood Clog were formed in Leicestershire in 1977, and are delighted to be invited by ‘The Lock In’ to perform in Loughborough on 6th February. New members always welcome!

60 YEARS OF LEICESTER MORRISMEN
Re-formed in the 1950s we proudly carry on the tradition of earlier Leicester sides and we claim to have danced in every town and village in Leicestershire over the last 60 years, and many other places besides.
Why? Because it’s fun! Because we enjoy each other’s company. Because we raise money for charity. Because it’s good exercise. Because we get to drink the odd pint – though it’s not compulsory. Because we like to keep alive one of the most colourful traditions we’ve got.
