 Hadrian Clog

Based along the Tyne Valley in Northumberland, Hadrian Clog performs a wide variety of clog and hard shoe dances from the North East and England and beyond! We take traditional steps, give them our own ‘Hadrian’ twist, and pair them with our favourite folk tunes, performed on concertina, fiddle, guitar and melodeon.

The Newcastle Kingsmen

The Newcastle Kingsmen began in 1949, when a group of students at King’s College (now Newcastle University) decided to try their hand at the traditional Winlaton rapper-sword dance as a Rag Week stunt. The team’s rapper side is now regarded as one of the best in the country, and has added North-West and longsword dances to its repertoire, while the relatively new clog side are quickly establishing themselves as favourites on the festival circuit. The team practices in the Cumberland Arms in Byker, just 15 minutes walk from the Sage.

Star and Shadow

Star and Shadow are a rapper and clog team from Newcastle upon Tyne. Twice winners of DERT, we perform both traditional and modern rapper dances. You’ll be able to spot us by the twirling skirts, turquoise sashes and the glass of gin in our hands!
