Grimsby Morris Men

Grimsby Morris Men were formed in 1967 so we have just celebrated our 50th anniversary. We are based in the Lincolnshire town of Great Grimsby, which was, until recent times, the largest fishing port in the world.

Grimsby Morris Men perform Cotswold dances in the summer, mostly from the Bampton, Adderbury and Wheatley traditions, and Boarder (this is not a typo) dances in the winter. We also perform Plough Plays during the Festive season.

Many morris sides have a hobby horse as their mascot. We have a hobby boar, by the name of Stan, whose image is featured in our logo. Grimsby also has a great boar hunting tradition, which explains why Stan is somewhat skittish when he’s out in public.

Herring Gals

The Herring Gals is very much a family affair. Wives and daughters of Grimsby Morris Men, we were tired of watching them have all the fun so we made a team of our own. We have 3 sets of mothers and daughters and one set of sisters which makes practices interesting! We dance North West morris and use garlands, sticks, slings and handkerchiefs.We have been to many festivals and events in places such as Scarborough, Sowerby Bridge and Hull. This year we will also dance at York. Our dresses are identical except for the inserts in them which are tailored to our interests, from Alice in Wonderland to musical notes and dressmaking.
